Greetings,
My Name is Jose DeJesus Zamora, and I am an assistant professor at Parsons School of Design in NYC. I teach a course for first year students and we will be building a 3v 5/8, 12 feet diameter Geodesic dome, to be used as a 360 projection surface at a public event in Liberty Park, Jersey City, NJ. It will be in collaboration with a local charter middle school in celebration of Earth Day in late April of this year.
We inherited the wooden struts from a group of students who used them for a thesis project, and had no longer a need for them. They are cut in the correct sizes, and we have been able to connect them and assemble the dome using just zip ties which is the method used by the original group. Unfortunately it’s extremely week and we need strength . From my research, I find that your method is the most effective and simple to build and cost effective if we can be allowed to produce them ourselves.
We have a very limited budget from the school for this project which also includes the design and production of a projection interior surface for the dome, which we are also construction out of soft material (fabric or vinyl). I’m afraid we have no budget to purchase the kit from your website, but if you give us your permission we will give the credit to Zip Tie Domes for the product and the contribution. We will also provide documentation of the dome and the event in which it will be used.
I will greatly appreciate your response one way or the other.
Many thanks for your attention and consideration.
Best,
José

Dear John,
Thank you for your email. I am glad to hear. I am sharing, below, a folder with images showing various stages of the dome process.
The Dome was a school project with my group of 17 freshmen students taking my studio course Space and Materiality. The Dome was built as a collaboration with the Parsons Graduate Program in Design and Technology which was in charge of creating the animated video projections inside the dome. The projections were 3d animations designed as an educational tool for teaching about ecology and sustainability to middle school students from a Charter School in New Jersey. The final event was open to the general public during Earth Day 2018 in Liberty State Park in Newark, overseing the statue of Liberty and the skyline of Manhattan. It was very successful and the process of assembly/disassembly was very smooth thanks to your genius connector design.
Let me know if you have any problems accessing the images. I hope not. And feel free to use these within your website as you please. Glad to be supporting your business and once again, many many thanks for supporting our efforts to make this project possible by giving us permission to utilize you patented license.
Best regards,
José

John,
As promised here are some images of the finished project using your system. It was a success!
I will be receiving more photographs since the university sent a professional photographer to document the assembly of the dome at the event in Liberty State Park. Again thanks for allowing us to use your patent.
More to come.
Best
José

John,
Thank you so much for your generosity! My wood struts are 1-1/32" in diameter. I will definitely send you a picture of the dome when completed. We will be assembling it in school within the next couple of weeks as practice, and we will have our actual event on late April. I will share images from both situations.
Once again, many thanks for allowing us to use your patented design.
Best,
José

Jose,
Yes, you are welcome to use our patented hub design in exchange for a picture of your completed dome.
Let me know the diameter of your struts and I will help you determine the best way to build your hubs.
Thanks,
