John
I thought you might get a kick out of the attached pictures.
We got a late start building our 16 ft. Silo Dome. We were being pushed by our first winter snow storm of the season.
With two of us working, the zip tie dome went up quicker than shown in the videos. As the weather was starting to change, in advance of the cold front, winds started to pickup.
We used it to help get the plastic sheeting up and over the dome. We used Keith Harris’s idea of using 4 in. knock-out test caps and zip tie loops to secure the outside covering.
The dome got it’s first wind test the first night (Saturday) with steady winds <15 mph gusting to over 20 mph. The following morning (Sunday) it started to snow big heavy flakes from Lake Affect snow off the Great Salt Lake. It is Monday and we have flurries and about 6 in. of heavy snow on the ground.
The dome is still in our backyard with zero wind damage and it has shed most of the snow. We look forward to putting up the inside layer of sheeting in a few days.
If you look close you can pick out 4 of 8 - 4x4 in. PVC portals, with sliding doors, mounted on a cross strut that I can open and close for cross ventilation next summer.
Thank you again for all of your help and advice on this project. Please stay safe and enjoy your family and friends. Happy Holidays.
Respectfully,
Keith Davis
